Sage to Open New Veterans Lounge on Troy Campus; Public Invited to Online Ribbon Cutting

Russell Sage College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open a new veterans lounge on its Troy campus from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 11.

The public is invited to view the ribbon cutting online. The event is free, but advance registration is requested at https://sage.secure.force.com/events#/list.

The online event will include a video tour of the lounge and remarks from retired U.S. Air Force Col. Brian Backus; Glenn Gilbert, LCSW-R, of the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center; and U.S. Navy veteran and President of the Russell Sage College Veterans Club Michael Groissl.

The veterans lounge is intended to be an inviting space for student-veterans to relax, study and socialize, said Shawn Heller, a U.S. Army veteran and assistant director of enrollment for veteran recruitment at Sage. “Sage’s history of serving non-traditional students, small classes and transfer scholarships that supplement VA education benefits are attractive to veterans,” he said. “The new lounge reflects our longstanding commitment to build community among student-veterans and reinforces Sage’s reputation as a veteran-friendly college.”
