Sage to Host Mohican Tribal Historic Preservation Office and Transfer of Artifacts to Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe

The Sage Colleges is pleased to announce that it will be home to a Tribal Historic Preservation Office in collaboration with the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Tribe from Bowler, Wisconsin. The office will be located on the Russell Sage campus in Troy. Troy was one of a series of villages of Mohicans along the Hudson River for thousands of years. Artifacts from the tribe were discovered in south Troy in 2012.

The overall goals of the Tribal Historic Preservation program are to protect Mohican sites, recover Mohican cultural materials and raise community and public awareness of Mohican history. The office will work with Sage faculty and students on various projects.

An opening reception will be held to mark the establishment of the office on Wednesday, August 12 at 3 p.m. at 37 First Street, Russell Sage Campus in Troy, building #44. Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia will preside over the transfer of the cultural artifacts to the tribe.
