Sage to Host Lecture on Immigration Reform as Part of WORLD Series Program

The Sage Colleges welcomes Joanne Macri, J.D., to its Russell Sage campus on Wednesday, September 16 at 1 p.m. She will discuss immigration reform and the right to counsel.

Macri is regional director of the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services. Prior to joining the NYS Office of Indigent Legal Services, Macri served as the director of the Criminal Defense Immigration Project (CDIP) and the Immigrant Defense Project of the New York State Defenders Association (NYSDA). While with NYSDA, Macri traveled across New York State training criminal defense attorneys on the immigration consequences of New York criminal convictions. She was recognized by the New York State Bar Association Criminal Justice Section for her outstanding contribution to Criminal Law education.

The lecture is free and open to the public and will take place at 1 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center on the Russell Sage campus in Troy.

The event is part of the WORLD Series, a year-long lecture series for first-year Russell Sage students, the campus community and the public, focusing on topics of global and national importance, women’s lives, science and technology, and the arts. WORLD stands for “Women Owning Responsibility for Learning and Doing.”
