Sage to Host Film Screening of “He Named Me Malala”

The Sage Colleges is pleased to host an evening celebrating woman of influence Malala Yousafzai. Sage’s Esteves School of Education and the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York will present a free screening of “He Named Me Malala” on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 6 p.m. in Bush Memorial Center on the Russell Sage College campus in Troy.

The documentary offers an intimate portrait of Nobel Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley.

Malala, at the time just 15 years old, was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls’ education, and the attack sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now leading a global campaign for girls’ education.

Dean of the Esteves School of Education Lori Quigley, Ph.D., will introduce the film.

The screening is free but registration is required. It is open to the public including parents, educators, counselors, and students ages 14 and up. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
