October 23, 2020Russell Sage College and NYS Council of School Superintendents Form Partnership
Russell Sage College and the New York State Council of School Superintendents recently formalized a partnership allowing graduates of the NYSCOSS Future Superintendents Academy to enter the doctoral program in Educational Leadership at Sage’s Esteves School of Education.
The NYSCOSS provides professional development for superintendents and aspiring superintendents across New York State. Sage’s doctoral program in Educational Leadership prepares highly-qualified education leaders, with a focus on effective system leadership.
School and district leaders may apply to the Future Superintendents Academy through the Council of School Superintendents. Twenty-five applicants will be selected to participate in a year-long series of courses to prepare them for the position of school superintendent. After completing the Future Superintendent’s Academy, participants will be eligible to transition directly into the doctoral program in Educational Leadership at Russell Sage College. Sage will grant FSA graduates a three-credit tuition waiver to be used during the first year of their doctoral program.
“We live in a time of uncertainty, and yet our school leaders must consider this time as an opportunity to build a better future for our students and school communities,” said Jerome D. Steele, Ed.D., chair of Sage’s Educational Leadership program. “The Russell Sage College/NYSCOSS pathway to the program creates that opportunity.”
“Now more than ever, New York needs exceptionally well-prepared school leaders to fill the leadership shortage that looms on our horizon,” said Charles S. Dedrick, Ed.D., NYSCOSS executive director. “The partnership between Russell Sage College and NYSCOSS will help fulfill that need.”
