Runners and Walkers to Beat Beethoven at October Event to Benefit Schenectady Symphony

The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra presents its 4th Annual Beat Beethoven 5K Run/Walk in Central Park, Schenectady on Sunday October 2, offering runners and walkers a special opportunity to support the SSO and “Beat Beethoven.”  The race will get underway at 9:20 am with last chance registration from 8:15-9:00 am.  Advance registration available online at  https://www.zippyreg.com/online_reg/registration.php?eventID=735

Runners will race to a broadcast of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, performed by the SSO in 2007, aired by sponsor WMHT-FM beginning promptly at 9:20.  Those crossing the finish line before the 32-minute piece ends will receive a free ticket to “Trick or Treat,” the opening concert of the SSO’s 83rd season, held Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Proctors Theater.  Individuals and teams are welcome, with age-group awards, team awards and Best Team T-Shirt contest; a Kids Fun Run allows the youngest fans to take part. Last year more than 200 runners registered and 138 crossed the finish line to Beat Beethoven before the conclusion of the music.

Founded in 1934, the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra is a community-based symphony orchestra with the mission of providing cultural enrichment, music education and appreciation a  home for the talents of accomplished musicians in the community.  SSO’s four-concert 2016-2017 season, Spirit of Youth opens Sunday October 30 at 3:00 pm at Proctors Theater.  For more information about the SSO, the season and its events, visit www.schenectadysymphony.org
