Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady Announces Largest Poker Event Ever Held in the Capital Region

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady today announced details of the first-ever $100,000 guaranteed Capital Region Classic Poker Tournament. It’s the first of many large tournaments that will be held at Rivers, and is expected to bring hundreds of players to the casino’s Event Center over May 24 to 28, all vying for a piece of the $100,000 prize pool.

Registration for the Capital Region Classic opens May 17 at the main cashier cage on the Rivers gaming floor.

“Our poker room has seen nonstop action since we opened the doors, and our players know there’s nothing quite like the excitement of a big poker tournament,” said Rivers Casino & Resort General Manager Mary Cheeks. “There are a lot of reasons to make a trip to Rivers, and for poker players, we just added at least 100,000 more.”

The Capital Region Classic will be held over two “Days” of No Limit Texas Hold’em action, with multiple Day One flights being held from May 24 (Wednesday) through May 27 (Saturday). Players can carry their tournament chips over to Day Two (Sunday, May 28), where they’ll have a chance to make it all the way to the final table and vie for a piece of the guaranteed $100,000 prize and the title of first ever Capital Region Classic champion.

Day One buy-ins cost $260 for 25,000 in tournament chips with unlimited re-entries. Players wishing to bypass earlier flights and join the action at Day Two can buy-in for $1,100 for 100,000 in tournament chips. The prize pool will be at least $100,000 – if participation exceeds that figure, the pool will grow accordingly.

“We wanted our first big poker tournament to be player-friendly and accessible to players at all levels of skill and experience,” said Rivers Casino & Resort Poker Manager David Grubb. “This tournament format is fast and fun, and affordable buy-ins with unlimited re-entries make it perfect for players looking for tournament experience. Add in the chance to walk away with big winnings, and it’s a winning formula.”

The event will be live blogged by poker personality Tim Kelliher, allowing the worldwide poker community to follow along.

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady features a 50,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,150 slot machines, 67 gaming tables and 16 poker tables. The floor is attached to a 10,000-square-foot banquet facility capable of hosting more than 900 people for conventions and special events, one of the largest spaces in the region. Also on the property are five restaurants, Splash Spa and a 165-room hotel (opening summer of 2017).
