June 1, 2021Regional Dragon Boat Team “Dragons Alive” Adds a New Military Veterans Team for the 2021 Season
Dragons Alive, the Capital Region’s largest dragon boat team, announces the formation of a NEW team: Veterans Dragon Boat – Capital Region. There are now four veterans’ dragon boat teams either established or being formed in the northeast: Holyoke, MA (veteransdragonboatusa.com), Boston, MA, Burlington, VT and Albany. We paddle to race! Veterans looking for a fitness challenge, a supportive team ethic, a competitive spirit, and a fun new sport should try paddling a dragon boat (the fastest-growing water sport in the world).
Friends and family of vets may join our Dragons Alive team, open to everyone over age 18. All newcomers will be coached by our experienced, Canadian-certified Level-II racing coaches. The Veterans team will have its own practices and schedule, and there is no charge for membership thanks to a Veterans Administration grant. The team provides all equipment, including 10- and 20-person dragon boats. We are based at Mohawk Valley Marine, 47 Mohawk Ave. in Alplaus, NY 12008, and our practices are generally on weekday evenings from 6-8pm. There are racing festivals throughout the season, beginning in 2022, and training camps for every level of paddler throughout the year.
