The Real Heroes awards are presented each year to ordinary citizens whose extraordinary acts of service and bravery have helped to save lives in their communities. Heroes may be nominated in one of five categories: Life Saving Hero, Youth Good Samaritan, Military Hero, Blood Donor Hero and Emergency Relief Hero. Additional criteria for each award are listed on the online nomination form, found on their webpage.

“Each year at our Real Heroes Breakfast, we’re reminded that there really are heroes all around us,” said Gary Striar, CEO for the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York. “Nominations from our community help us find those people and honor them for their heroic acts, so we hope you’ll let us know about the heroes you’ve encountered over the last year.”

The 2016 Real Heroes awards will be presented at the American Red Cross Real Heroes Breakfast on Friday, March 4 at Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany. Proceeds from the breakfast will support the lifesaving programs and services of the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York.
