March 15, 2017R&E May School to Use Computer-Based Testing
St. Catherine’s R & E May School will become one of the first schools in New York State to use fully operational computer-based testing. The new technological way of testing will soon be mandated throughout the state for grades 3-8.
The way the testing system will work is as follows: every student will be given their own Chromebook and headphones for testing purposes. Each Chromebook will feature a special browser that can be used for testing only, and can read the questions aloud to the kids.
“We are providing greater access across the board to our students, and this will hopefully help the standardized test process,” said R & E May School Principal Jennifer Elliott. “The hope is that the computer-based testing system will be a more approachable way of testing for the kids, giving them a more familiar setting.”
The R & E May School serves elementary school students with behavioral and special educational needs that cannot be met in a traditional school setting.
The first day of testing on the new computer-based system will be on March 27 for the New York State ELA test.
