December 14, 2022Questar III BOCES Honors Late Board Vice President with the Renaming of Durham Facility
Questar III BOCES announced it has renamed its facility in Durham. The Durham School will now be known as The Marilyn A. Noonan School at Durham.
Named after the late Marilyn A. Noonan, former Questar III BOCES Board vice president, The Marilyn A. Noonan School at Durham honors Noonan’s dedication to school board service. She first joined the BOCES board in 1988, after previously serving on the Catskill Central School District School Board.
“Marilyn helped Questar III become more transparent and responsive to the needs of our local school districts,” said Dr. Gladys I. Cruz, Questar III BOCES district superintendent. “She was one of our most enthusiastic supporters. Her leadership and advocacy directly impacted students across our tri-county region. Marilyn was often one of the first to like our Facebook posts or to share a story about the BOCES role in public education.”
Noonan was an active member of the Questar III board until her passing in 2020. She was a founding member of the Tech Valley High School Operating Board; a recipient of the G. Lucius Carey Award, Questar III’s highest honor; and served on the Greene County School Board Association.
The Marilyn A. Noonan School at Durham opened in September 2019 with a heavy equipment program, part of Questar III BOCES Career & Technical Education programs. In September 2022, Questar added a new agriculture science CTE program, and relocated the special education programs from Catskill Academy, previously housed within Catskill Central School District. Building renovations are currently underway at the Noonan School. A ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for later in the school year.
