This version of the Special Olympics uses the NYS Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program or MATP. This is a competition against oneself. During practice a baseline score is taken for the student’s elected event. The students are then required to beat that score on the day of the Special Olympics competition to receive a medal. Students have been practicing for the Special Olympics for several months. Parents, family and community members will be among the volunteers at the event.
Students who have disabilities or severe medical conditions are enrolled in the Langan School at Prospect Center, where special education teachers use technology, mobility equipment and innovative techniques to teach students academics and life skills. The Langan School operates on a 12 month calendar
