Preview of Regional Contemporary Art Exhibition Juried by Ellsworth Kelly Foundation President Jack Shear

The Albany Institute of History & Art is hosting the 2017 Exhibition by Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region. Established in 1936, this annual, juried exhibition pays tribute to the many talented artists working within a 100-mile radius of New York’s Capital District and Glens Falls. This year’s juror is Jack Shear, a photographer, curator, and the President of the Ellsworth Kelly Foundation.

This year’s exhibition features 87 works by 32 artists. Seventeen works were selected by the juror to receive awards and each of the rotating host institutions (the Albany Institute of History & Art, the Hyde Collection, and the University at Albany Art Museum) selected purchase prizes for additions to their collections. One gallery of the 2017 exhibition highlights past Albany Institute of History & Art purchase prize winners to give visitors context of the legacy of this annual exhibition.

In addition, Shear is reinterpreting the Albany Institute’s nineteenth-century sculpture court with the exhibition.

On June 16 from 6-8pm, the Albany Institute of History & Art will open this year’s exhibition with a special reception and award ceremony. The exhibition will run through September 3, 2017.
