Preferred Foundation Names 2017 Scholarship Winners

The Preferred Foundation, a corporate giving entity of Preferred Mutual Insurance Company (“Preferred Mutual”), has awarded scholarships to four local high school students graduating in 2017.

The Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship is awarded to college-bound high school seniors that reside in Otsego, Delaware, or Chenango, NY counties and is evaluated on academic merit and responsibility to community.

Hancock Central High School student Gina Tan was the first place winner of the 2017 Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship and will receive $2,500 each year for four years. Tan is planning on attending the University of Albany – State University of New York in the fall. Oneonta High School student Joshua (Josh) Grimm was selected as the second place winner of the 2017 Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship. Grimm will receive $1,000 each year for four years and is planning on attending University at Buffalo – State University of New York in the fall.

The 2017 Irad and Jan Ingraham / James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Unadilla Valley Central School seniors that have a commitment to community service and strong academic standing.

The 2017 Irad and Jan Ingraham / James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship first place winner is Unadilla Valley Central School student Megan Carpenter. Carpenter was awarded $1,500 each year for four years and is planning on attending SUNY Oneonta in the fall. Unadilla Valley Central School student Brayden White was named as the second place winner and has been awarded a one-time scholarship from Preferred Mutual’s Foundation in the amount of $800. White is planning on attending Clarkson University in the fall.

Preferred Mutual and the Preferred Foundation value academic excellence and community involvement, and consequently have been offering these scholarship opportunities to local seniors for more than a decade. The scholarships can be applied to college-related expenses.
