Power of Song

Friday September 16th @ 7 PM // $5.00

Join us for a night of music this election season as we celebrate the connection between music and politics. Emma’s Revolution and Magpie — with host Sonny Ochs — will take the stage in Mabee Farm’s Dutch Barn for gutsy, rocking topical songs that show just how strong the power of song truly is!

“Fervent and heartfelt. “Smart, funny and informative –like Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart with guitars.” Emma’s Revolution is the duo of award-winning activist musicians, Pat Humphries & Sandy O. Emma’s Revolution’s songs have been sung for the Dalai Lama, praised by Pete Seeger and covered by Holly Near. The duo’s awards include Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and, for the second year in a row, the Washington Area Music Association’s Fan Favorite Award.

With the power of their delivery, Magpie (Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner) is well-known for their performances of hard-hitting topical songs. Magpie brings their unique sound and remarkable versatility to audiences everywhere, featuring traditional and vintage Americana to contemporary and stirring original compositions. With two strong voices in harmony and superb instrumental arrangements, their sound is powerful and moving. Award-winning recording artists, singers, songwriters, musical historians, playwrights, actors and social activists, Terry and Greg are proud to be, as Pete Seeger said of them, “…more links in the chain”, dedicating their lives and music to leaving this world a better place.

Host Sonny Ochs is a music producer and radio host. She is known for the “Phil Ochs Song Nights” she organizes, at which various musicians sing the songs of her brother, singer-songwriter Phil Ochs.

Tickets are $5, and available at schenectadyhistorical.org/song.
