Percussion Workshop Invites Families to Make Music at Museum

The Albany Institute of History & Art invites families to a special workshop “Introduction to the World of Percussion and Rhythm” at the museum on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 1pm. Percussionist Brian Melick will lead participants in an exciting exploration of over 40 different types of drums. Visitors will learn about the history of percussion instruments and how they vary around the world.

Space is limited and registration is required. The fee is $5 per child, which includes museum admission. Adult companions do not need to register in advance and may buy regular admission tickets at the door. Registration may be done online at www. albanyinstitute.org or over the phone at (518) 463-4478 ext 435.

This hands-on event is inspired by the museum’s current exhibition Rock & Roll Icons: Photographs by Patrick Harbron, which is open through February 12, 2017.

Brian Melick is a professional percussionist and educator from Ravena, New York. Melick recently displayed his LEGO® drum kit at the Albany Institute of History & Art in a special exhibition as part of family programming for the Rock & Roll Icons exhibition.
