December 19, 2017Parsons Early Head Start Receives $20k Grant From The Schenectady Foundation
The Schenectady Foundation has awarded the Parsons Early Head Start (EHS) program of Northern Rivers Family of Services a $20,000 grant to fund childcare for low-income parents pursuing educational and training opportunities.
The funding will be used to enable EHS parents, who otherwise could not afford child care, to access EHS services between the expanded hours of 7 and 9 a.m. and 3 and 5 p.m., which would allow them time to attend educational/vocational day classes and to study. EHS will also introduce therapeutic group sessions for program participants to help and support parents in their educational pursuits.
“This funding will be a life-changer for our Early Head Start parents as they work to pursue education, obtain meaningful employment and overcome poverty. We are truly grateful to The Schenectady Foundation for investing in the futures of our young, strong families,” said William T. Gettman, CEO of Northern Rivers.
EHS serves more than 200 Schenectady County low-income pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers up to age 3 each year, through home and center-based programming and services. They offer a variety of learning and social activities for children and health and safety skills for parents, along with early assessment services in child development, mental health, hearing and vision, nutrition, literacy and dental hygiene.
