July 31, 2019P-TECH Freshmen 10 Area Schools Launch 2019-20 School Year Early with ‘Bridge’ Program
Thirty-five incoming Capital Region BOCES Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) freshman got a head start on the 2019-20 school year this week with a week-long summer bridge program.
The students from Mohonasen, Schalmont, Watervliet, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Scotia-Glenville, Guilderland, Niskayuna, Shenendehowa, Middleburgh and Berne-Knox-Westerlo school districts are entering the innovative, high-tech school that allows them to earn a college degree for free while working extensively with high tech innovators and business partners.
On Monday, the students were introduced the school’s curriculum and met with Stacy Robison of Albany Can Code who spoke about website construction, one of the projects the students will undertake. Students will visit the Hudson Valley and SUNU Schenectady community college campuses and the Capital Region Chamber later this week.
Launched in 2018, P-TECH is a four- to six-year program (grades 9-14) offered to students throughout the region through a consortium that includes Capital Region BOCES, the Capital Region Chamber, Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Schenectady County Community College.
The program’s two campuses – East Campus is at Watervliet High School, West Campus at the Center for Advanced Technology at Mohonasen – provides pathways for students to earn free college degrees in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems and Cybersecurity.
