NYSID (New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc.) Employees Funded and Delivered Meals to Residents of Capital Region Group Homes

NYSID (New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc.) employees delivered meals to nearly 200 residents in 16 group homes in Albany and Schenectady Counties run by the Center for Disability Services and Schenectady ARC, in honor of the holidays.

NYSID has been actively working to help reduce food insecurity in the region due to the pandemic. Employees of NYSID – from the newest members of the staff to the organization’s leadership – have donated and volunteered at Feed Albany and multiple Catholic Charities drive-through food distributions. In September, NYSID employees collected food for the Maria College Food Pantry, which provides emergency food to students at Maria College who are facing food insecurity.

“I’m so proud of our NYSID team. In addition to working tirelessly to ensure individuals with disabilities are provided meaningful work, they go above and beyond and volunteer to make a significant impact in the lives of others. We are excited to continue to give back to the communities we serve in 2021,” said NYSID president and CEO, Maureen O’Brien.

The holiday meals were prepared by Martel’s, a popular restaurant in Albany, NY, at a discounted rate. NYSID greatly appreciates the commitment of Martel’s to helping those in the community. The cost for the meals was donated by NYSID employees and matched by NYSID dollar  for dollar.

Non-profits that support people with disabilities face serious financial pressures, which have been worsened by the coronavirus pandemic. NYSID and its employees support the work its entire membership does throughout the state, from providing work opportunities for individuals with disabilities to supporting them though residential and other programs.

NYSID employees annually provide seasonal contributions to organizations focused on helping people with disabilities. Past contributions have gone to the Museum of disABILITY History in Buffalo (a project of People Inc.) and, last year, to Special Olympics New York.
