NY Giants’ Running Back Paul Perkins to Appear at Center Telethon

Paul Perkins, running back with the New York Giants, will appear as a special sports guest at the Telethon to benefit the Center for Disability Services on Sunday, January 29. Perkins will meet fans at the Radisson Hotel Albany, formerly the Holiday Inn Albany, at 205 Wolf Road. He will appear in the sports area, which is presented by UHY LLP, from noon to 3 p.m., and will sign autographs. A limited number of photos and footballs will be for sale that day. All proceeds from the telethon support the Center and its divisions, Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center, Life Quality Solutions Incubator, Prospect Center in Queensbury and St. Margaret’s Center in Albany.

Perkins just completed his first season with the New York Giants. His running game gave a boost to the Giants in the lead up to the playoffs and he started in the NFL Wild Card game between the Giants and the Green Bay Packers.

Perkins was born in Mesa, Arizona, and attended Chandler High School where he was named a first team all state player. He attended UCLA, and while playing for the Bruins he compiled some impressive rushing statistics. He was selected by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft and signed a four year $2.59 million dollar contract with the team in May 2016.

Perkins is from a second generation NFL family. His dad, Paul ‘Bruce’ Perkins, played for the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his uncle, Don Perkins, played eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants have a large fan base in Albany and have played a major part in the Center Telethon for years. Special guests from previous years include Jason Pierre-Paul (2016), Rashad Jennings (2015), Andre Brown (2014), Martellus Bennett (2013), Hakeem Nicks (2012), Adam Koets (2011), Rich Seubert (2010), Steve Smith and Derrick Ward (2009) and Steve Smith (2008).

The all live, all local telethon broadcast airs on WXXA/FOX23 (cable channel 8 or check listings) from noon to 7 p.m. The Center for Disability Services is known as the place where people get better at life. For more telethon information, go to #518Gives or www.cfdsny.org.
