Noted GE Scientist to Donate Autobiography As Habitat House Warming – Cites Examples / Lessons That Apply to Parenting and Work Ethic

An interesting house warming gift awaits new home owners participating in Schenectady County Habitat for Humanity’s house ownership program. Dr. Walt Robb, former Director of the GE Research and Development Center, is donating a copy of his book “Taking Risks – Getting Ahead in Business and Life” to each new home owning-family.

While appearing like a college level ‘business book,’ Robb’s 175 page autobiography offers glimpses into Robb’s life experiences that make it a valuable parenting and life skill manual. Walt started early to gain advantage by Taking Risks in asking for jobs ahead of his school peers and in doing more than was required to simply pass. He benefited from parents, teachers and managers.

The holder of 12 patents, earned half of his college tuition while still in high school and earned both his BS and Ph.D. in three years; while managing to maintain an active social life. One of his main objections in writing this book is to encourage people to be entrepreneurial.

“For parents of young boys and girls, the first chapter may be most important,” says Dr. Robb who also addresses new employees and first level managers with examples that can “get you off to a better start in any organization.”

“What an amazing gift from an amazing man, said Schenectady County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Madelyn Thorne. “We are so appreciative of the thoughtfulness and thought involved in this gift. ”Taking Risks ‘Getting Ahead in Business and Life’” is published by Meadow Brook Farm Publishing LLC, Waukesha, Wisconsin. It is available locally at The Open Door Bookstore, 128 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY.
