Northern Rivers receives $6,250 in grants for Early Head Start

Northern Rivers Family of Services’ Early Head Start program has been awarded a $3,750 grant from Stewart’s Holiday Match and a $2,500 grant from National Grid.

The funds will be used to purchase learning supplies, play equipment, bottles, diapers, books, and other needs for the facility and its clients.

Early Head Start, operated by Northern Rivers member agency Parsons Child & Family Center, serves low-income expecting mothers and families with children up to age 3 in Schenectady County. More than 120 children are served each year through both full-day center-based and weekly in-home programs designed to improve school readiness, literacy skills, child and family development, physical and mental health, and family mentoring.

“Our Early Head Start students will benefit greatly from the kindness of Stewart’s and National Grid. We always have a need for more classroom supplies and learning materials, and the impact of these grants, which will provide even greater benefit because of matching federal Early Head Start funding, will be felt immediately by grateful Schenectady families,” said Wendy Hopkinson, Executive Program Director of Early Childhood Services at Northern Rivers.
