Northern Rivers Joins Statewide Coalition to Advocate for Human Services Funding

Northern Rivers Family of Services joined more than 30 human services organizations from across New York State at a press conference Thursday at the Capitol to urge lawmakers to support the workforce that serves more than 1 million vulnerable New Yorkers each year. The coalition launched the 3For5 campaign, with the goal of securing a 3% funding increase every year for the next five years in the state budget for workers who provide mental health, substance use, developmental disabilities, child welfare, foster care, aging, domestic violence, homelessness, and other services.

“Twelve years ago, the state pledged to provide annual funding increases for the nonprofit human services sector. Yet year after year, that pledge has been broken, costing agencies like ours more than $1 billion and forcing us to make incredible difficult decisions. The time is now for New York State to support the human services first responders that keep people safe,” said William T. Gettman, Jr., CEO of Northern Rivers.
