April 8, 2026Northern Rivers Energy Extra Program Provides Employees Relief at the Pump
To provide a little bit of relief to employees impacted by the recent spike in gas prices, Northern Rivers Family of Services has launched their new Energy Extra program. In about one day, organizational leaders came together to develop and approve a one-time payment to all full- and part-time employees to relieve a little of the pain at the pump. Full-time employees receive $75, part-time employees receive $50, and per-diem employees receive $25, paid in checks delivered on Friday, April 3.
Altogether, Northern Rivers invested. $80,000 in the program. With gas at $4/gallon, that’s enough for 500,000 miles. For reference, the distance from the earth to the moon is about 235,000 miles. So in honor of the recent moon launch, our program could have gotten us to the moon and back!
In the words of mental health clinician Heather Thorpe, “As I filled my gas tank this morning at $4.09 a gallon, I was reminded of the e-mail from Bill Gettman and the Energy Extra, I wanted to just say this is one of the many reasons I am grateful to Northern Rivers. I may not fill my tank, but it is the point- the recognition and appreciation and hey- we know, we get it, can’t fix it but can let you know we get it. So just a thank you. I don’t know of any other employers that have done this.”
