Niskayuna Graduate Awarded SkillsUSA Student of the Year at Center for Advanced Technology by Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School

An aspiring game designer from Niskayuna has been named Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School SkillsUSA Student of the Year at the Center for Advanced Technology Student of the Year

Davie Penid was awarded the honor during a virtual BOCES awards ceremony on June 24.

Penid was presented the honor because of his strong academic skills, work ethic and dedication to the career and technical education. He also was active in school activities, including serving as secretary of the SkillsUSA organization at the Center for Advanced Technology.

“Davie Penid was an outstanding addition to our SkillsUSA team this year. …  Davie was always ready to support his teammates, advisors and his school in any way he could,” said Counselor and SkillsUSA advisor Gretchen McDonough.

“The SkillsUSA student of the year is chosen based on their participation in our community service/volunteer activities, leadership in the organization and competition participation. Whether it was helping as a tour guide in our open house, fulfilling his numerous duties as secretary, or impressing the staff with his outstanding Action Skills Presentation on ‘creating gaming codes’…Davie excelled in all these areas. He truly exemplified what it meant to be a SkillsUSA officer,” she added.

For his part, Penid credits BOCES with solidifying his future plans.

“I learned about strong work ethics that will guide me in my career of choice,” he said

“I plan to go to Hudson Valley and then on from there. I want a career in game design and that’s possible because of Capital Region BOCES,” he said.
