New Retail Store Brings The Beautiful & The Unusual To Downtown Schenectady

This fall you can explore your curiosity of makeup and skincare, right in downtown Schenectady at 510 State Street. The Makeup Curio is a retail and service business blending beauty, theater, special effects, and skincare. Shop their retail store, book a private lesson or join a group workshop, and transform yourself with facials, waxing and makeup artist services. Curated brands carried include Graftobian, Makeup Eraser, The Balm, Skin Illustrator, Rubber Wear and more.

Having been working out of a studio in the back of her house for the past year, owner Jenn Dugan is thrilled to be moving to a more public setting. “Makeup is my art form. It allows me to transform brides, prom goers, halloween lovers, actors, cosplayers, and gala attendees. I love having a client leave my makeup chair or my facial bed feeling refreshed and transformed and I know I’ve done my job when they can’t stop looking at themselves in the mirror.”

In spring 2016, Jenn participated in the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp, coming in second place with her business plan. She recently received her NYS Esthetics License after completing her program at Aesthetic Science Institute and is also a graduate of Schenectady County Community College with an AAS in Business Administration.

The Makeup Curio’s mission is to provide a transformative experience that allows customers to express themselves. Knowledgeable staff will guide customers in product selection for at home personal use, or through safe and clean services, leaving customers feeling energetic and refreshed, and either beautiful or perfectly weird.

Can’t wait until fall to transform yourself? In the meantime customers can still shop online and book private lessons. Check out their Facebook page for a list of upcoming events.
