New Playground Brings Play and Purpose to Destiny Prep

Destiny Preparatory Charter School gathered for the official ribbon-cutting of its new playground, marking a major milestone in providing a student-centered, well-rounded environment for Schenectady families. The event highlighted the school’s dedication to combining academic excellence with joyful physical activity and outdoor play.

For Executive Director and Head of School Re’Shawn Rogers, the new space fulfills a five-year vision inspired directly by family requests for dedicated green space. Rogers thanked families, staff, building leadership, and city partners for bringing the project to fruition, emphasizing that play serves as a crucial foundation for classroom learning.

Schenectady Mayor Gary R. McCarthy joined the celebration to express his support, noting that investments in youth resources play a vital role in the city’s broader growth and revitalization.

Board of Trustees Vice Chair Raysheea Turner highlighted Destiny Prep’s strong academic track record, noting that scholars consistently outperform district benchmarks across key categories. Turner emphasized that the new playground will further boost student morale as scholars continue to excel.

The school community will host a scholar-centered ribbon-cutting celebration next week during its annual trunk-or-treat event, giving students their own special moment to celebrate their new space.
