New Immersive Pink Floyd Experience Coming to miSci Planetarium in Schenectady

Discover Schenectady announced today that the Museum of Innovation and Science (miSci) will launch an all-new immersive experience celebrating one of the greatest albums of all time — Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon — beginning this Friday, May 15.

Presented inside miSci’s state-of-the-art planetarium dome, this unforgettable audio-visual journey combines the legendary music of Pink Floyd with breathtaking 360-degree visuals that surround the audience from every angle. Produced by the award-winning team at NSC Creative in collaboration with Pink Floyd’s longtime creative partner Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis, the show has already captivated more than one million people worldwide.

Each of the album’s 10 iconic tracks is presented in order and accompanied by immersive visuals inspired both by Pink Floyd’s storied past and imaginative visions of the future — transforming the planetarium into a cosmic celebration of one of the most influential albums ever created.

Building on the success of James Hood’s Mesmerica and Beautifica, which drew enthusiastic audiences during extended runs at miSci, along with the museum’s popular Rockin’ the Dome immersive music experiences, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon continues the evolution of cutting-edge entertainment programming at miSci.

“miSci continues to redefine what audiences can experience inside a planetarium,” said Chris Hunter, President of miSci. “The Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most iconic albums in music history, and this immersive production allows fans to experience it in a completely new way. The visuals, sound, and storytelling combine to create something truly unforgettable.”

The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority provided over $140,000 in funding to equip the planetarium for immersive programming. Additional support was provided by the Bender Scientific Fund and the Niskayuna Community Foundation. miSci’s planetarium has undergone significant technical upgrades including a new projector, projection equipment, sound system, laser system, seating, and other technical enhancements.

“Schenectady County continues to attract innovative cultural experiences that can’t be found anywhere else in the region,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “miSci has transformed its planetarium into a destination for immersive entertainment, and bringing The Dark Side of the Moon to Schenectady is another exciting example of how arts, science, and technology can come together to create unforgettable experiences.”

Pink Floyd, formed in London in 1965, became one of the most influential and successful rock bands of all time, known for their psychedelic sound, conceptual albums, and groundbreaking live performances. The band’s legendary catalog includes The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. With more than 250 million albums sold worldwide, Pink Floyd’s music continues to inspire generations of fans.

The Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon immersive experience is a collaboration between NSC Creative and Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis, the legendary album cover design company Powell co-founded with Storm Thorgerson in 1967. Hipgnosis created some of the most iconic album artwork in music history for artists including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Yes, Genesis, and many others.

“This latest immersive experience is exactly the kind of unique attraction that makes Schenectady County such an exciting destination for visitors and residents alike,” said Todd Garofano, Executive Director of Discover Schenectady. “Whether you’re a lifelong Pink Floyd fan or simply looking for an unforgettable night out, The Dark Side of the Moon at miSci is a one-of-a-kind experience that people will be talking about long after the show ends.”
