Albany Public Library celebrates its newest art exhibition, “Illustrated,” with an opening reception on Friday, June 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Pine Hills Branch (517 Western Avenue). The reception is free and open to the public, and includes light refreshments and live music.

“Illustrated,” which was curated by APL Art Exhibition Coordinator Jessica Cone, is a survey of the illustration medium as a whole and features more than 80 pieces from over a dozen artists. The exhibition can be viewed during regular library hours at the Pine Hills Branch and continues through Oct. 28.

The work of three local illustrators—Meg Sodano of Albany, Cara Hanley of Albany, and Marie Beebe of Chatham—is featured in the show. Several other artists are children’s book illustrators, including Ruth Chan, who illustrated Georgie’s Best Bad Day and Mervin the Sloth, and Deb Lucke, who illustrated The Lunch Witch and The Book of Timeouts.

“Viewers can also witness publications from a selection of our exhibiting artists. In addition to aesthetic pleasure, their work is a creative vehicle used to bring words and stories to life,” Cone said.

Support for the exhibition was provided by the Albany Public Library Foundation.

Exhibition Artists: Meg Sodano, Cara Hanley, Marie Beebe, Ruth Chan, Gigi Chen, Aya Kakeda, Deb Lucke, ShinYeon Moon, Jeremy Nguyen, Isabel Roxas, Nina Summer, Bethany Robertson, and Peach Tao
