MVCC, University at Albany Enter Into Historic Transfer Agreement

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Mohawk Valley Community College and University at Albany signed the largest articulation agreement MVCC has with any institution and the largest agreement that University at Albany has with a SUNY community college.

The agreement, signed by MVCC President Randall VanWagoner and Jeanette Altarriba, vice provost and dean of Undergraduate Education at the University at Albany, includes 46 majors, every school and college at University at Albany, and 100 program-to-program equivalency charts.

Advising guides will be provided to students looking to transfer and will show them how their coursework can apply to myriad programs at the University at Albany. According to the agreement, a student majoring in General Studies, General Science, or Humanities and Social Sciences at MVCC could enter into almost any bachelor’s degree program at University at Albany and graduate within four semesters.

“Having such an agreement with the University at Albany allows the opportunity for students to continue on with their education without having to go too far away from home,” said Michael Henningsen, coordinator of MVCC’s University Partners and Transfer Center. “This agreement will provide over 100 transfer opportunities for not only our current students, but for future transfer students for years to come.”

MVCC and the University at Albany have a previous Dual Admissions agreement with UAlbany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity. While that agreement remains in place, the new agreement will open opportunities across all nine of UAlbany’s Schools and Colleges.

“This new agreement provides a substantial opportunity for New York State residents and others to benefit from the collaborations between our two campuses,” Altarriba said. “We are fortunate to have worked with MVCC on a limited scope Dual Admissions agreement for our College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity since 2016. This larger agreement highlights the many paths a student can take once they transfer to UAlbany, increasing student access to academic programs that together promote and encourage bachelor degree attainment in a timely manner.”

The signing took place during National Transfer Student Week, being celebrated at MVCC and UAlbany to help students become more aware of the process for transferring and the resources and opportunities available to transfer students.
