Musicians of Ma’alwyck Appoint New Director

Musicians of Ma’alwyck is delighted to announce the appointment of Caroline Brown as our first Executive Director. This position was made possible by the generosity of Chet and Karen Opalka and we are extremely grateful for their support. Caroline is a passionate leader in arts and culture and will work vigorously to bring MofM’s mission to audiences in the Capital Region and beyond.

Her involvement with Musicians of Ma’alwyck goes back as far as her teenage years, when she was one of my violin students. As a professional, her work with the organization has evolved from grant writer to board member, and now to Executive Director. In her time on the board, she served as Vice Chair and led the Nominating Committee, Program Committee, Audience Development Committee, and was integral to the creation of the 2023–2026 Strategic Plan.

She has held positions as the Assistant to the Directors/Membership & Programs Coordinator at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums and Director of Development at the Schenectady County Historical Society. She is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City, where she majored in Russian literature and French language. She completed her masters degree at the Cooperstown Graduate Program for Museum Studies with a concentration in nonprofit administration and fundraising.

Originally from Schenectady, Caroline now calls Sharon Springs, NY, home, where she resides with her partner, Will, and their cat, Phyllis. In her free time, you can find her antiquing, solving logic puzzles, untangling genealogical webs, and trying new recipes.

Musicians of Ma’alwyck acknowledges the great contribution of our Business and Grants Writer Laura Doe,
who has been on our staff since May of 2022. Laura’s efforts during the past two years have allowed us to formalize our administration to the point where we could hire an executive director, and we are grateful for her work. Laura will remain with us until the end of June, helping facilitate the transition. Laura, in addition to her work with Musicians of Ma’alwcyk, is the Director of Programming and Development for the Foundation of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and a grant writer for various community development nonprofits.
