July 28, 2017Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and Downtown Albany BID Announce Nipper Week, July 31-August 6
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and the Downtown Albany BID are sponsoring Nipper Week from Monday, July 31 through Sunday, August 6. The collaboration celebrates the “Downtown is Pawsome” public art project, a display of 20 artist-decorated, 3-foot-tall Nipper sculptures placed around the city, and the opening of the Humane Society’s new retail store, Nipper’s Nook. A pet microchipping clinic will be held on August 2 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at 4 Clinton Square.
Each of the statues will be wearing a red collar and ID tag instructing people to take a selfie with a Nipper, then post it to both the Humane Society’s and the Downtown BID’s Facebook pages. Participants can then visit Nipper’s Nook at the Humane Society, located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands, show their posts, and receive an adorable Nipper dog toy through August 6.

While Nipper is well-known throughout the community, most dogs (and cats) don’t enjoy as much notoriety. Therefore it’s critical that they wear ID tags and are microchipped for identification, should they ever lose their way from home. The Humane Society will be offering a microchip clinic on Wednesday, August 2, from 4:00-6:00 pm, outside of McGeary’s Irish Pub, at 4 Clinton Square in Albany. Microchipping will be performed by MHHS veterinary staff in Albany County’s animal cruelty response vehicle, which serves as a mobile clinic. The cost is $20 per pet. Cats and dogs are welcome. Cats must be in carriers and dogs on leashes.
