miSci to Premiere Insatiable: Cooking Up Innovation Exhibition

  • miSci to debut the first exhibition of its new traveling program on October 12, 2019
  • Insatiable showcases the evolution of cooking, food culture, and science within the kitchen
  • Five galleria chronicle humankind’s exploration of culinary technology and engineering
  • Interactive, hands-on components demonstrate key scientific and societal concepts

miSci’s upcoming exhibition, Insatiable: Cooking Up Innovation, will open to the public on Saturday, October 12, 2019 and be on view through Sunday, January 19, 2020. This will be the first exhibition for the previously announced traveling exhibition program.

Insatiable: Cooking Up Innovation explores the evolution of how humans over thousands of years have transformed food into astonishing culinary delights through heat and our relentless search for new and unique ways to prepare and alter its taste. It presents the remarkable story through the display of “firsts” – first iron stoves, electric ovens, toasters – and past and present state of-theart gadgets and hands-on interactives. miSci is utilizing its extensive collection of innovative electrical devices, many of which were invented by its long-time collaborator, General Electric. Visitors of all ages and interests will be immersed in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) related concepts we apply every day to practice the universal art of cooking.

“miSci has a world class collection of some of the most cutting-edge cooking accoutrements created in their time,” said Dr. Gina Gould, President of miSci and Chief Curator of the exhibition. “These historical objects tell the story of how the advent of electricity has revolutionized the way we prepare and cook food. Recipes once relegated to the very wealthy who could afford professional chefs and kitchen support staff, are now attainable by wanna-be chefs, like myself. This exhibition tells the story of our journey from being hunters and gatherers to becoming culinary gurus, or at least aspiring to be so.” miSci has partnered with Saratoga County-based company Creatacor, the largest supplier of custom fabrication services in upstate New York. They are responsible for the production and fabrication of Insatiable: Cooking Up Innovation, as well as the exhibitions that are part of miSci’s upcoming traveling exhibition program.
