September 29, 2025Member Spotlight: Wildwood Programs
Wildwood Programs, founded in 1967, provides exceptional support to individuals of all ages – and their families – living with developmental disabilities and autism throughout the Capital Region. With a wide range of programs, Wildwood offers comprehensive residential, educational, vocational, recreational, and family support services to more than 1,600 individuals each year. Wildwood’s mission is to help people maximize their independence, fulfillment, and productivity. This work is made possible through the generous support of individuals and businesses in the community.
An interesting fact about Wildwood is that it began when a group of parents became frustrated by the lack of supports and services available for their children. In 1967, they raised money by selling Tootsie Roll canisters to start a small summer program. From those humble beginnings, Wildwood has grown tremendously, with today’s budget exceeding $70 million.
Each year, Wildwood hosts Staff Day, an event that brings together staff from all departments for a day of fun, games, good food, and agency awards. This year’s theme was an Island Festival, held at the Hangar, making it a memorable celebration for everyone involved.
Wildwood has always been known for its family focus and person-centered approach, which guide all of the services it provides.
As a member of the Capital Region Chamber, Wildwood benefits in many ways. The Chamber helps them develop community allies, create job and internship sites, and make valuable introductions to the greater community. Wildwood also appreciates the Chamber’s support in promoting its three annual fundraising events: the Walk for Wildwood on the morning of Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Cook Park in Colonie; Trivia Night on the evening of Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Frog Alley Brewing; and the Spring Gala on the night of Friday, April 24, 2026, at Loft 433 in Troy.
The nicest thing a family has ever said about Wildwood is that the organization made their family so much happier by helping people achieve greater independence and fulfillment in their lives.
