Member Spotlight – Ávila Retirement Community

Ávila is the Capital Region’s premier independent retirement community for seniors seeking an active, engaging and rewarding lifestyle. Ávila was built in two phases Grande Lodge and the Cottages were built in 2004 and The Lodge was built in 2011.  Avila’s logo originated from the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly found in the Pine Bush.

Nestled in the Pine Bush area, Ávila residents enjoy visits from turkey and other wildlife while just minutes away from area shopping, restaurants and cultural attractions, and even medical services.

Amenities are abundant at Ávila, too! The aquatic center, activity rooms and state-of-the-art fitness facilities all cater to the on-the-go, health-conscious senior. Easily accessible community gardens, hobby studio, and entertainment rooms offer our residents unlimited opportunities to socialize, learn and pursue their passions. Combine that with Ávila’s world-class dining options from elegant to casual, dine in or take out, every taste and dietary need is fulfilled.

Ávila is known for collaborating with area organizations and businesses to broaden offerings for our residents!

Ávila is truly focused on matching housing options to your lifestyle needs to create a more personalized, comfortable, and familiar independent “lifestyle” experience.  As Don S. states “We considered a number of Capital Region independent living communities. One visit to Ávila, and we were sold. It wasn’t just Ávila’s centralized location and proximity to cultural events and venues, it was the welcoming, comfortable, and homey feeling we immediately felt.”

The spirit and culture of Ávila is led by Donna Smith, CEO.  One of the nicest comments a resident has said about her was “Because Donna goes above and beyond in her advocacy and care of seniors, their families, and their caregivers, she finds ways to connect to the soul of the senior and helps them to connect to the world.”  Donna and Ávila are new members of the Chamber and is looking forward to hosting the Ambassador Group in September.
