August 25, 2017The Meadows at Glenwyck to Host 8/30 Workshop on “The Basics of Alzheimer’s Disease”
The Meadows at Glenwyck will partner with the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern New York on a presentation titled, “The Basics about Alzheimer’s Disease.” The talk will take place at the independent senior living community, which is located at 150 Dutch Meadows Lane in Glenville (just behind WalMart), on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
During the information-packed workshop, which is supported in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Health, Tonya Garmley, helpline and program coordinator at the Alzheimer’s Association, will discuss detection, causes, risk factors and stages of the brain disease that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. She will also talk about treatment options.
“Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging and it gets worse over time,” said Garmley. “Although symptoms can vary widely, the first problem many people notice is forgetfulness severe enough to affect their ability to function at home or at work, or to enjoy hobbies. The disease may cause a person to become confused, get lost in familiar places, misplace things or have trouble with language.”
