May 1: New Exhibition at Schenectady JCC | Israel @ 70: A Photographic Tribute by Margo Singer

Israel @ 70: A Photographic Tribute by Margo Singer

From May 1 through June 30, Israel @ 70: A Photographic Tribute by Margo Singer will be on exhibit in the Farber-Miness Lounge of the Robert and Dorothy Ludwig Schenectady JCC on the Golub Family Campus, located at 2565 Balltown Road in Niskayuna.

An artist’s reception, which is open to the public, will be held on Sunday, May 6, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.

In fall 2016, Singer and her husband Israel (Izzy) went in Israel to visit family and to sightsee. This was Singer’s first trip to Israel in more than 40 years ago, when she visited as a teenager. This exhibit features some of Singer’s favorite photos showcasing the natural beauty of the land and the vibrancy of the people, in celebration of Israel’s 70th birthday.

Margo Singer is a self-taught photographer since childhood. She prefers the natural environment more than people, but an occasional human, or more likely a stray cat or a beloved family dog will sneak into the frame.  While the serenity of the natural environment, especially bodies of water, is calming, Singer also enjoys the hustle and bustle of urban life, with its colorful street art and chaos.

Singer has exhibited locally in juried group and solo shows at The Albany Center Gallery, Spencertown Academy Arts Center, Albany Barn Stage 1 Gallery, Art on Lark, The Artists’ Space @National Bottle Museum, The Eden Café, Troy Night Out, Uncommon Grounds (Albany), and the East Greenbush Public Library.

Singer is a graduate of Barnard College and the Columbia University School of Public & International Affairs. She works for the Brain Injury Association of New York State in Albany NY.

Singer and her husband live in Castleton, NY and are members of Congregation Berith Sholom in Troy and the Nassau Synagogue.

The exhibit program is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and was made possible through the generous support of the Epstein Jewish Cultural Fund, Meyer & Mary Kurland/Gebell Fund, and Jonas & Edith Fleminberg Jewish Cultural Fund.
