November 19, 2015Marie Debrocky Starts 3rd Term As Upper Union Street Bid Chair
Marie DeBrocky, owner of Head to Tail Pet Wellness Center, has been re-elected chair of the Upper Union Street Business Improvement District (BID). Peter Musler, owner of Musler’s Fine Women’s Wear, is the vice chair. Rocco Zabin from Gershon’s Deli is the secretary. Joe DiFilippo owner of JD Computer Systems is the treasurer. Other board members include Joni Civill, Ray Feurstein, Gloria Herman, owner of Tesoros Café, Jerry Griggs, Branch Manager at First Niagara, Gregg Kelly of Northeastern Fine Jewelry and Anthony Kaczmarek of Sondra’s Fine Jewelry. Co-Executive Directors are Maureen Gebert and Madelyn Thorne. Joanne DeVoe of DeVoe Associates Marketing & Public Relations is the Marketing Consultant and Lisa Tamburello, a recent retiree from Trustco, is continuing on the board as a financial consultant.
The Upper Union Street BID area is composed of some 90 businesses located along Union Street between Garner Ave. and the Niskayuna Town line at Van Antwerp Road. The district, which is primarily funded as a special tax assessment district, has worked closely with the City of Schenectady and the Metroplex Development Authority of Schenectady County on street scape and façade improvement projects. The district sponsors special events, and supports beautification, façade improvements and marketing projects in the Upper Union Street area. The district is thriving and has a 95% business occupancy rate. The next Upper Union Street special event is the a community tree lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 6 at 4 p.m.
