Madison Vasquez Named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

Siena Women’s Soccer sophomore midfielder Madison Vasquez is the MAAC Wilson Offensive Player of the Week. Vasquez tallied three points and scored the game-winning goal in Wednesday’s regular season finale at Quinnipiac which clinched the Saints the final MAAC Tournament berth.

This is the seventh MAAC Weekly Award captured by a Saint this fall, with Vasquez becoming the sixth different honoree. The final MAAC Weekly Awards reflect only last Wednesday’s regular season finales and do not take into account last weekend’s MAAC Tournament matches.

The West Babylon, N.Y. product factored on both Siena goals in the Saints’ 2-0 win against the Bobcats. In a matchup where the winner would advance to the postseason and the loser’s season would end, Vasquez came up with a big time performance in leading the Saints to their third straight MAAC Championships Appearance. She opened the scoring in the 36th minute, and then set up freshman Meghan Riccardi’s key insurance goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Vasquez has started all 19 matches at center midfield this fall and leads the Saints in points (12), goals (five) and game-winning goals (two).

Following a 1-0 win at rival and third seeded Marist in the conference quarterfinals Sunday in Poughkeepsie, Vasquez and the sixth seeded Saints have advanced to play MAAC Regular Season Champion and No. 1 overall seed Monmouth in the semifinals. The match is set for Friday at 5 p.m. in West Long Branch, N.J. and the contest will be broadcast on ESPN3.
