Lt. Gov. Hochul Celebrates Women’s Leadership at Center for Women in Government & Civil Society’s Fellows’ Graduation

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 26, 2015) – Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will be the keynote speaker at the University at Albany’s Center for Women in Government & Civil Society’s 33rd annual graduation on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Milne Hall, Room 200, on the downtown campus of the University at Albany at 135 Western Avenue in Albany.

The event celebrates the graduation of 13 Women & Public Policy Fellows from a rigorous program that prepares them for leadership in public policy. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Prior to taking office in January 2015, Hochul served as a Group Vice President for Strategic Relationships at M&T Bank, serving as liaison for community matters and significant economic development projects. From 2011-2013, Hochul served in the House of Representatives from New York’s 26th Congressional District. Prior to her time in Congress, she was the highest-ranking female elected official in Erie County while serving as County Clerk from 2007-2011. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a J.D. from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

The Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS) is part of Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at the University at Albany. CWGCS seeks to deepen and broaden political access and economic opportunities for women by strengthening the capacity of government, nonprofit and business sectors to implement gender-responsive, inclusive and equitable policies, practices and services. The Fellowship is a six-month, rigorous, and multi-faceted leadership development program for graduate students and mid-level professionals. It is designed to provide a springboard for aspiring women leaders to pursue careers in public policy while increasing the capacity of New York State government and civil society.
