Local Hardware Retail Opens in Schenectady County

Hatchet Hardware, a local authorized ACE Hardware dealer, announced over the weekend that they have officially opened the doors to their fifth hardware store in upstate New York.

In August of 2020, the Grasso family of Angelo, Giovanni, and Erika took on the task of renovating the former Morgan Stanley building. Like most construction projects, there were setbacks. The Covid-19 global pandemic and pending winter weather made aspects of their endeavor difficult, but the team was determined to accomplish their goal of opening a Hatchet Hardware store in Niskayuna early in the new year.

The new hardware store, located at 1448 Balltown Rd. in Niskayuna, NY, will carry brands like Benjamin Moore, STIHL, DeWalt, Carhartt, and Yeti. Taylor Clement, the buyer and merchandiser for Hatchet Hardware, has been hard at work curating the store’s specialty good section to bring in gifts, books, houseplants, and home decor items. “We’re excited to get to know the community and start working with creators from around Niskayuna to bring in new local goods”, Clement said. The store will also offer annuals and perennials come spring.

Hatchet Hardware of Niskayuna’s winter hours are Monday – Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 5pm. The trio plans to celebrate their grand opening and ribbon cutting upon the completion of their greenhouse and exterior renovations in spring of 2021.
