Living History: Homeroom Lofts to offer Capital Region a Unique Multifamily Living Experience

-Sunrise Management & Consulting, JPM Contractors and Robert Bucher Architects Partner on Adaptive Reuse of Sand Lake Elementary School-

Averill Park, NY – May 20, 2015:  Sunrise Management & Consulting, Robert Bucher Architects and JPM Contractors today announced the upcoming conversion of the Sand Lake Elementary School, built in 1929, into a new 31-unit apartment community called Homeroom Lofts.  The school was owned and utilized by the Averill Park School District until architect Bob Bucher, who is teaming up with Jesse Holland of Sunrise Management & Consulting and Jim Mesko of JPM Contractors to develop the project, discovered the building.

“We knew the Sand Lake market was underserved.  This seemed like the perfect opportunity to fulfill that need and make use of a beautiful local beaux arts building that I have always admired,” says Bucher, principal at Robert Bucher Architects, PC.

“The project will complement the historic, small town feel of the surrounding Sand Lake community,” added Holland.  “Plus, from an environmental standpoint, we are reusing existing space which saves resources.”

The renovation of the old school into an apartment community will create a stunning combination of original detail and modern amenities including an innovative sliding glass wall system designed to maximize space and natural light in some of the units.  Bucher is taking great pains to ensure that the original feeling of the beaux arts building is maintained.  Living spaces will include original detail where possible as well as period style trim and lighting.  The community will also feature nine-foot ceilings, oversized windows and hardwood floors.  In addition, to appeal to modern sensibilities, the apartments will include stainless steel appliances, stone countertops, sophisticated glass and ceramic tile bathrooms, and solar shade window treatments.

Bucher’s plans will incorporate and enhance the green exterior landscape.  Residents will be able to enjoy a garden, courtyard terrace and 1.75 acres of green space including 10,000 square feet of reclaimed greenery that will replace existing asphalt.  In addition, vintage inspired glass and bronze steel canopies will be added to the front entrances to provide a touch of refined period elegance.

Homeroom Lofts is the first development project Sunrise Management & Consulting has undergone in partnership with Robert Bucher Architects and JPM Contractors.

“We are excited to work with Bob and Jesse on this innovative project,” says Mesko.  “Homeroom Lofts will showcase our combined talents, support local preservation and offer residents a truly unique living experience.”
