Leadership Tech Valley Class of 2019 to Hold Fundraiser for Young Parents United, Inc. (YPU)

Leadership Tech Valley (LTV), an initiative of the Capital Region Chamber, has selected Young Parents United, Inc. (YPU) as the LTV Class of 2019 project recipient.

Founded in 2018, YPU is a Schenectady-based, non-profit organization that provides education, case management and comprehensive support services to teen parents and their children.

In 2019, YPU made the decision to expand their services to provide additional support to these families with a Baby Safety Box initiative for newborns who are due this spring. These boxes contain everything an infant requires during the first three months of life, while reinforcing the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) by providing a safe place for babies to sleep on their own and on their backs.

The LTV Class of 2019 is hosting a community fundraising event: Showering Young Parents United: A Community Baby Shower Investing in the Future of Local Families through SIDS Awareness and Addressing Basic Needs on Wednesday, May 8 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Schenectady Armory to support the fulfillment of the boxes. The event will include a silent auction, raffles, wine pull, music, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Click here to learn more and register for the event.

How You Can Help

The Class is seeking in-kind donations from individuals and/or local businesses – food donations or silent auction items – for the fundraising event on May 8. All proceeds from this event go to support YPU. Please email ltvclass2019@gmail.com if you’re interested in donating food or auction items.
