Leadership Capital Region Class of 2026 Celebrates Completion of Sojourn House Transformation Project

Community leaders, elected officials, volunteers, and project partners gathered on June 9 at Schenectady Community Action Program’s (SCAP) Sojourn House to celebrate the success of a transformative community service project led by the Leadership Capital Region (LCR) Class of 2026.

The project focused on revitalizing Sojourn House, a transitional residence that supports mothers and children experiencing homelessness in Schenectady County. Over the course of several months, LCR participants worked alongside SCAP leadership, community volunteers, sponsors, and local businesses to complete a series of significant interior and exterior improvements designed to create a more welcoming, functional, and supportive environment for residents.

The celebration featured remarks from representatives of Leadership Capital Region, SCAP, the Capital Region Chamber, and Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara, who recognized the collective effort that made the project possible. Senator James Tedisco also spoke, along with SCAP CEO Adelaide Haberbush, Capital Region Chamber President and CEO Mark Eagan, and Leadership Capital Region participant Joy Rodriguez of Arrow Bank. Speakers highlighted the power of community collaboration and the impact that volunteerism, fundraising, and in-kind contributions have on organizations serving vulnerable populations.

Guests had the opportunity to tour the renovated space and view the improvements completed during the project firsthand. The event concluded with an official Ribbon Cutting, marking both the completion of the project and the lasting partnership between Leadership Capital Region and SCAP.

The Sojourn House Transformation Project reflects Leadership Capital Region’s commitment to developing community-minded leaders while creating meaningful, lasting impact throughout the Capital Region. Through the dedication of the Class of 2026 and the support of community partners, Sojourn House now offers an enhanced space where families can focus on stability, growth, and building a brighter future.
