Law Firm Announces Opening of NYC Office to Better Serve Corporate Clients, Makes Moves to Expand Overseas

Albany-based law firm Tully Rinckey PLLC has again expanded its New York State footprint; this time, by establishing an office in midtown Manhattan. The opening of the law firm’s New York City office located on Third Avenue and 49th Street, is in an effort to better service the firm’s current and future corporate clientele, while focusing on the financial services industry on a national and international basis. The firm’s New York City office will employ 14 people, supported by a larger network throughout the state of attorneys and support staff ready to assist in all business legal matters.

John C. Doherty, Esq., a corporate law attorney with decades of transactional and general counsel experience, has been named Managing Partner of the new Manhattan office. Utilizing Doherty’s expansive business acumen, the firm’s primary goal is to make the NYC office location the hub of the firm’s corporate, commercial and international presence. As such, Doherty will be responsible for spearheading the firms Manhattan corporate practice to assist public and privately held companies seeking corporate, commercial and international legal services. Tully Rinckey PLLC acquired Doherty’s Manhattan-based practice earlier this year.

“This is only the beginning of our growth in New York City,” said Founding Partner Mathew B. Tully, Esq. “We have been planning this expansion imitative since the inception of the firm, and having an arsenal of 77 Attorneys throughout the firm billing at much lower hourly rates than our New York City competitors, is something that will set us apart from AmLaw firms in midtown.” Tully added the firm “will be adding numerous attorneys that will be bringing a client base of Fortune 500 businesses by the end of this year.”

Along with the announcement of the NYC office, Tully also set forth his ambitious and strategic plan, appropriately titled “Mission 2020;” a five-year plan for growth, with the primary goal being to expand the firm’s presence overseas and into global markets. According to Tully, the firm is already gearing up to open its first international office in Dublin, Ireland by the end of 2017.

This continued growth stems from the firm’s ongoing success as a full service law practice throughout its seven upstate New York offices. The firm also provides legal services nationally for federal employees, members of the military (active duty and retired) and government contractors out of its Washington, D.C. and San Diego, CA offices. For the last eight years, Inc. Magazine has ranked Tully Rinckey PLLC on its Inc. 5000 – List of America’s Fastest Growing Companies.

Mathew B. Tully is one of Tully Rinckey PLLC’s two founding partners. In 2004, Mathew worked with fellow Hofstra alum and Founding Partner Greg T. Rinckey to establish the foundation of what is today Tully Rinckey PLLC – a full service law firm with offices spanning from the East Coast of the United States to the West. Mathew partners with Greg on the strategic planning and law practice management of the firm. Together, they create and implement innovative business initiatives that continue to expand Tully Rinckey PLLC into new markets and practice areas.

Both Tully and Rinckey come from military backgrounds. Tully served in the United States Army as a field artillery officer, and he was a federal law enforcement officer with the U.S. Department of Justice. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the New York Army National Guard after earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal, among other honors. Rinckey served as a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he had many assignments including as a federal prosecutor and an assistant U.S. attorney. Rinckey also served at the Army Defense Appellate Division in Washington, D.C. working on criminal appeals. Because of their military service, Tully Rinckey PLLC became the first law firm in New York State to receive Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business status.

Tully is one of a small number of attorneys licensed to practice law in three different countries. He is an Attorney and Counselor at Law in New York State, and is on the rolls of Solicitors before the Supreme Court of England and Wales, as well as being on the rolls of Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland.
