Kathy Magliato, M.D., Nationally Recognized Heart Surgeon and Inspiration Behind NBC’s “Heartbeat,” to Speak at 2016 Women’s Night Out

Kathy Magliato, M.D. will be the featured speaker at Ellis Medicine’s 2016 Women’s Night Out on October 25 at Proctors.

As the area’s leading event celebrating women who enrich our families, workplaces, and community, Women’s Night Out aims to bring women together for a night of shopping, networking, and education on healthy life choices. Women’s Night Out proceeds support the Neil and Jane Golub Breast & Heart Health Center at Ellis Medicine’s Bellevue Woman’s Center.

An Evening with Kathy Magliato

Magliato is one of the few female heart surgeons in the world, specializing in Heart/Lung Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Device implantation.

She is a nationally recognized authority on heart disease in women and has been featured extensively in the media, including on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX News, as well as on Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart and Dr. Oz shows. Magliato’s memoir, “Heart Matters,” was published in 2010 and received a starred review by Publisher’s Weekly and a 4-star review in People magazine. Her memoir was made into the scripted medical drama on NBC called “Heartbeat,” which premiered March 23, 2016.

Magliato founded and directed the Women’s Heart Health program at St. John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica, Calif.., where she is currently on staff. Previously, she was a heart/lung transplant surgeon at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she founded and directed the Ventricular Assist Device (mechanical heart) program. In addition to her 17 years of training as a cardiothoracic surgeon, she recently received her MBA at the UCLA Anderson School of Business and is developing a diagnostic cardiovascular medical device for which she holds a patent. Magliato received a BS degree in Biochemistry at Union College in Schenectady, and continues to serve on the Board of Trustees.
