Katagiri Lifts Siena Past Binghamton in Five

Kalehua Katagiri led all players with 26 digs and had five aces to help Siena get past Binghamton in five tight sets (27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-11) on the road Thursday night.

Haley Howell dished out a career-high 54 assists in the victory and served the final three points of the match.

Briana Flagg posted another double-double with 18 kills and 14 digs, and freshman Darby Taylor had a career-best 15 kills. Sonja Vasovic added 13 kills and ended the match with back-to-back finishes on the right side. Samantha Pethokoukis added 12 kills in the middle.

Siena dominated the match statistically, holding a 68-46 advantage in kills, a 79-71 edge in blocks, and a .198-.146 margin in hitting percentage.

Kristella Morina and Bianca Anderson combined for 23 kills and just one error for Binghamton.

Siena edged free for a 27-25 win in the first set after trailing 23-22. Binghamton rallied from six down to take the second 25-20, but the Saints bounced back to win the third 25-19. The Bearcats held Siena to just .054 to even the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set. The Saints never trailed in the fifth set, but Binghamton fought back to tie it at 11-11 before Siena broke free.

The Saints host first place Rider in a huge MAAC clash Saturday at 1 p.m.
