K9 Flynn of Schenectady Police puts on a Demonstration for Aspiring Law Enforcers

Officer Kevin Derkowski and K9 Flynn demonstrate Flynn’s ability to listen and sniff out evidence Thursday in front of aspiring law enforcers in the Capital Region BOCES Criminal Justice program at the Albany Career and Technical School campus. Sgt. Jeff McCutcheon joined the duo in discussing careers in law enforcement, their experiences and life as a police officer, as well as the skills sought by police agencies around the country.

Schenectady Police Department is among approximately 300 business, education and government partners that work with Capital Region BOCES to ensure students receive the training employers seek, as well as real-world experiences and opportunities.

Approximately 100 students are enrolled in the two-year criminal justice program offered by Capital Region BOCES on the Albany and Schoharie campuses. Students in the program learn about the history, theory, practices and recent developments in the field of criminal justice, as well as practice the skills necessary to work as police officers, work in the prison systems or work  in a security detail.
