WHERE: Capital Roots’ Ida Street Community Garden, 111 Ida Street in Troy, located on the corner of 6th Avenue.

DESCRIPTION: Capital Roots (formerly Capital District Community Gardens) will celebrate the opening of its 50th community garden in Troy’s South End with a special ceremony. The garden was created in collaboration with the Troy Little Italy Neighborhood Association and a variety of private individuals and families. Capital Roots is a unique urban land trust, where all protected land is actively gardened by community members. The event will kick-off the first season for families growing their own food in Troy’s South End and the public will be invited to tour the garden.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia will unveil a special 50th garden milestone sign and cut the Ida Street Community Garden ribbon alongside Capital Roots’ board members, Capital Roots Executive Director Amy Klein, Capital Roots’ Program Manager Sharon DiLorenzo, and Ethan Winter of the Land Trust Alliance. Members of the Troy Little Italy Neighborhood Association will gather alongside gardeners and community members from Troy.
