Jewish Family Services Install Safety Ramp at Home of Distinguished Military Veteran in Colonie

Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York (JFS), one of the region’s longest continuously operating human service agencies, with assistance from Rosenblum Property Services, LLC, based in Albany, installed a safety ramp in the home of a military veteran from Colonie to improve accessibility and minimize the risk of falls.

JFS was awarded funding by Albany County through the Ramp and Roll Grant to help veterans and older adults age well and safely in their homes.

As part of JFS’s home safety program, and a referral by Albany County Department for Aging, it was determined that retired US Army Reserve officer Rosetta Burke, a senior Colonie resident, was at increased risk of falls due to mobility issues. The decision was made to install a ramp to minimize the danger of tripping or falling.

Burke, a retired senior officer of the US Army Reserve, was the first female Assistant Adjutant General of New York State and a Major General of the Army National Guard, who was awarded two Army commendation medals during her 35-year military service.

JFS hired Rosenblum Property Services, LLC, to do the ramp installation.

As part of its Home Safety Assessment & Modifications Program, JFS has previously installed grab bars, bought shower chairs and revamped outdoor pathways for veterans and seniors in the communities they serve to foster aging well and safely.

JFS has been continuously providing support, services and resources to area individuals and families of all ages since 1854. JFS serves people of all backgrounds, while also assuming the unique ability and responsibility of meeting the particular needs of the Jewish community.
